Heading into the 2025 season, Notre Dame football is set to run it back after just falling short in the National Championship against Ohio State. They return a lot of key starters on offense but there is no better return than running back Jeremiyah Love.

Love had a fantastic breakout season in 2024 with 1,125 yards on the ground and 19 total touchdowns (17 on the ground). He was a huge contributor to Notre Dame’s run and there is no reason to not believe that he can have a repeat of a successful season alone. The Irish could very much rely on Love as there are questions right now at quarterback as Riley Leonard is in the NFL.

Averaging just under seven yards per carry last season, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him average more this coming season and be the reason why Notre Dame football leads the nation in rushing.

Latest PFF rankings shows major love for Notre Dame football and Jeremiyah Love

Trevor Sikkema from Pro Football Focus (PFF) put together a preseason power rankings list of some of the best running backs in the nation and wouldn’t you know it, Love comes in at No. 1 on the list. “he logged seven runs over 20 mph last season, per PFF’s in-game athleticism tracking.” said Sikkema.

In addition to his speed, Sikkema also talked about how Love forced a “0.38 missed tackles per attempt and averaged 4.4 yards after contact per carry which are both above the 94th percentile for running backs.”

Love has the best case to be considered the best back in the nation going into this season, but it will come down to how he actually performs. We see this all the time where teams/players receive a lot of hype but then ultimately don’t live up to the expectations. At the same time, we cannot deny the great talent that Love has.

Notre Dame’s offense could become run-heavy if the questions at quarterback continue throughout the year. Fans should expect Love to average between 15-20 carries per game if he can get off to a fast start.
