4-star safety could be Next Notre Dame football commit

Ethan Long is going to be announcing his commitment very soon, and it's looking like Notre Dame football could be the beneficiaries.

The Notre Dame football team has had a very eventful weekend. They had several players show off what they can do on Saturday during the All-American Bowl. In fact, the Fighting Irish added a new commitment to the 2025 class in the form of Chris Burgess Jr.

Now the party might continue into Monday night. That’s because there’s another prospect that the Fighting Irish are in line to land who is going to announce his commitment on January 8. And if he does pick the Golden Domers, it’s a situation where the rich get richer.

4-star safety Ethan Long is set to announce his new school on Monday. At the moment it appears that it would be quite a shock if he picked any program other than Notre Dame Football.

Long took to X on Saturday to explain that he’ll be picking his team on the 247Sports CFB Recruiting Show. In that same announcement tweet, he linked to an article with Tom Loy of 247 where the defensive back laid out the five finalists he’s picking from.

It’s a who’s who of the top football teams in the country vying for Long. In addition to the Irish, the Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes, Penn State Nittany Lions, and Wisconsin Badgers are in the running.

As for why he might pick Notre Dame over the others, it appears to be all about the fact that he’s gotten a ton of love since camping with Marcus Freeman and company this summer.

"They have shown how the tradition and school separate themselves,” Long told Loy. “The 4 for 40 is emphasized there and they take care of their guys. They are a family and have energy that is unmatched. Coach Freeman, coach O'Leary and coach Golden call and text me every day and that shows they want me and have big plans for me."

With Rivals, On3, and 247Sports all convinced that Long is picking Notre Dame football on Monday, it appears the school with the best recruiting class in the 2025 is going to get just a little bit better.
