One of the best former Notre Dame football defensive backs playing in the NFL got a deal that will keep his career going for a little while longer. The deal will also allow Julian Love to stick with the team where he posted what was arguably his best NFL season.

Love and the Seattle Seahawks have agreed to terms on a three-year extension worth up to $36 million, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday.

Following four seasons with the New York Giants, Love signed a two-year pact with the 'Hawks ahead of the 2023 season. After posting impressive numbers -- 123 tackles, 10 pass breakups, and four interceptions -- he is reupping with the Seahawks before getting back to free agency. In the process the former Notre Dame football star is doing the Fighting Irish proud.

Ex-Notre Dame football star gets impressive new NFL contract

The former Irish star excelled in head coach Pete Carroll's defensive scheme last year, and it's apparent that new head coach Mike Macdonald views the defensive back as a crucial piece to his scheme, as well.

A fourth-round pick of the Giants in 2019, Love is still just 26 years old and could be rounding into one of the top safeties in the NFL.

One of the reasons why the deal is so impressive is that he’s started to turn into one of the best in the league in a short period of time. In 2022, he had his first campaign that had more than 100 tackles. Then he passed that total again.

As a member of the Fighting Irish, Love had 176 total tackles in three years. He also had 6 interceptions and 6 tackles for loss.

While he got off to a slow start in his NFL career, it’s gotten much better of late. And the former Notre Dame football star looks like he’s prepping for more.
