Now that 2024 Early National Signing Day's hoopla is over, the Notre Dame football team can focus firmly on what's next. And what's next is finding a new offensive coordinator to replace the recently departed Gerad Parker.

It's a safe bet that Fighting Irish head coach Marcus Freeman is going to take his time. He's going to make sure he gets it right. But that doesn't mean that names can't start surfacing as far as who might be the most likely hire.

At the top of the list of hot names is none other than Kirby Moore. There's some rather obvious reasons why he'd be a name that Notre Dame football faithful could get excited about. There's also some reasons why some might want to go in a different direction.

The rather obvious reason for Notre Dame Fighting Irish faithful to get excited is that Moore helped the Missouri Tigers reach heights the program simply hasn't seen all that often.

Mizzou finished the regular season 10-2 and boasted one of the better offenses in the country. Even more impressive than those offensive numbers is how much they were improved from the 2022 version of the Tigers that finished 6-7 on the year.

Kirby Moore could instill improvement for Notre Dame football

Missouri finished last season with 24.8 points per game, and put up 34.1 points per game this season. The 2023 version of the Tigers averaged 273.5 yards passing yards per game compared to 214.1 passing yards per game in 2022.

That latter stat has to be the most attractive considering the impending arrival of Riley Leonard. But Moore has also put together a very good offensive running game. The Missouri Tigers had a running back in Cody Schrader who was one yard shy of 1,500.

If there's a negative for Moore, it's simply that he hasn't been a full-time coach or OC very long. In fact, before coming to Missouri, he had one other season as an offensive coordinator (at Fresno State) and has only been a full time coach since 2017.

Considering that Notre Dame football has already dealt with an offensive coordinator who hadn't done his job very long in Parker, there are bound to be some who aren't too keen on Moore joining the fold.
