While the Notre Dame football season has been over for a while and the Notre Dame basketball season has been less than successful, there are some Notre Dame Fighting Irish squads that are off to a very good start to their seasons.

Leading off the list of teams that are having a solid start is the Fighting Irish baseball team, which managed a 3-0 start to the season thanks to a sweep of the Rice Owls.

The three wins are a nice start, but even better is an undefeated opening to the campaign is that Notre Dame showed that they can win all kinds of different games. The first game was a pitcher's duel that the Irish won 3-1.

The next two games were offensive slugfests. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish baseball team won Saturday's tilt 9-5 and then finished off the weekend with a 13-10 victory.

While there were all kinds of contributors, the transfers led the way for the Fighting Irish. Simon Baumgardt of Tulane, Tito Flores (Michigan) and David Glancy (St. John’s) combined for for the vast majority of the 20 RBIs the team was credited with.

Quite a few transfers saw a lot of action as well, though they didn't see as much success. The Irish put 13 pitchers on the mound in the three games. Five of those previously pitched at other programs.
