Pair of Notre Dame football coaches among candidates at Boston College
Just when Notre Dame football fans thought the coaching carousel was over and everyone on the Irish were staying put, another head coaching job opened. And now that the Boston College job is open, we’re going to have to worry about Al Golden going elsewhere all over again.
It’s early yet and Jeff Hafley has just left the Golden Eagles so it seems as though there’s been very little time to get a real list of candidates together. However The Athletic’s Chris Vannini has put together an early group of guys who could be targeted by the ACC squad.
Al Golden did make the short list, though one has to wonder at this point if Boston College would want to go that route. On the other hand, it seems like they could do a lot worse than a defensive coordinator that led one of the best units in the country.
There’s also a bit of a twist here. The Notre Dame football staff could have two guys on the team that are vying for the same job. Defensive line coach Al Washington is a former Boston College player who actively went after the head coach job the last time it was open, when the now-departed Jeff Hafley got it.
Washington is also a good recruiter who could go to the Golden Eagles and show what he can do to turn the program around.
Meanwhile, Golden was a Boston College assistant coach from 1997 to 1999 and knows the landscape of the ACC since he was the head coach of Miami.

The Fighting Irish have already weathered a round of Al Golden rumors especially. There was talk that he might be a fit for both Indiana and Syracuse. Neither program came calling in the end.
Now, Notre Dame football fans sit and wait and see if a coaching search is no the horizon in South Bend.
