Notre Dame football rivals likely loses top player for South Bend tilt
The Notre Dame football team has few big games on its schedule this year. One of the biggest that gets overlooked in favor of tilts like Texas A&M and Florida State will be on September 28 against Louisville.
The Irish’s loss to the Cards last season was a season ender of sorts. The defeat in Louisville meant that Marcus Freeman’s squad was out of the playoff race. They’re going to want some revenge. And now when the two teams meet, a win could come easier.
The Notre Dame football team may now not have to face off with the player who could be the Cards’ best weapon this season. Transfer wide receiver Caullin Lacy suffered a broken collarbone this weekend. And that injury could see the former South Alabama athlete miss 6-to-8 weeks.
Notre Dame football may not face off against talented receiver
The current outlook for Lacy’s injury would have him missing games into mid-October. That would definitely have him not traveling to South Bend on September 28. The wild card here is of course, if he could perhaps stage a comeback on the earlier window.
The loss of Lacy is massive, considering how big a season he had in 2023. For South Alabama, he hauled down 91 catches for more than 1,300 yards. He was expected to be a massive weapon for Louisville.
Now it looks like Notre Dame football won’t have to try and match up against him. While I’d never root for someone to get hurt, the Irish will take any help they can get on the road to the playoffs.
