Former Notre Dame football coach Charlie Weis didn't like the way Franklin comported himself after the Nittany Lions lost their bowl.

Former Notre Dame football coach Charlie Weis might not work in the industry anymore, but he showed on Sunday morning that he still very much keeps track of the college football world. He also demonstrated that he has no problem weighing in when he sees something he doesn’t like.

Such was the case when Weiss took to X/Twitter and made it clear that he wasn’t happy about how Penn State coach James Franklin handled his Chik-Fil-A Peach Bowl loss. Specifically, the former Notre Dame Fighting Irish coach believed that the Nittany Lions’ head man didn’t give his opponent, Ole Miss enough credit.

“Congrats to the Ole Miss Rebels for their dominant will [sic] over Penn State,” Weis wrote. “Surprised that Coach Franklin chose not to give Ole Miss credit, but chose to blame the loss on ‘too many moving parts!’ Hotty Toddy! On to 2024.”

The former Notre Dame and Kansas Jayhawks coach wasn’t done going after Franklin with just one tweet. He continued in a separate post to explain just why he felt like Franklin did something rather untoward.

“Congratulating a team that defeats you means nothing if it is followed by excuses for losing like moving parts and/or officiating! Any coach who is a decision maker is best to first point the finger at themselves!”

Franklin’s Penn State squad lost to Ole Miss 38-25 on Saturday afternoon and while there were some “interesting” calls by officials, there were also plenty who believed that the Nittany Lions didn’t play all that well.

While Charlie Weis is correct in wanting Franklin to show more leadership, it’s not as though the former coach is totally unbiased in this situation. His son, Charlie Weiss Jr is currently a member of the Ole Miss coaching staff.
