Notre Dame football fans may not even realize just how successful the Fighting Irish coaches have been over the last few years in recruiting the state of Nebraska. It’s pretty clear that the coaches, on the other hand are well aware of their success, and they want to keep it going.

The latest Omaha target that the Notre Dame football team has drawn a bead on is Omaha Westside linebacker Christian Jones. If they’re able to pull this particular player away from the Cornhuskers, it would be quite the coup.

Jones is considered the top player in the state of Nebraska for the 2025 class and at the moment, he’s considered a heavy lean towards the Huskers. That’s not stopping Marcus Freeman and the rest of the Notre Dame football coaches from making a run anyway.

In fact, if you take what Jones recently told Irish Breakdown, Notre Dame football fans should be quite excited and Nebraska football fans should be more than a little nervous.

“Notre Dame is for sure trending to the top of my list,” he told the publication. “I like a lot of what they are doing and what they did last season.”

It has to be a mark in the positive column that the Fighting Irish have shown an ability to reel in Nebraska kids lately. In the 2024 class, Freeman got both Teddy and Anthony Rezac to come to South Bend over Lincoln.

And then of course, there’s former Omaha Burke standout Xavier Watts. The crowning jewel of the Golden Domers stealing players from the Huskers came to South Bend as a receiver. He’s now one of the best defensive backs in college football.

It’s incredibly likely that Freeman and company will use Watts, and the Rezac brothers to work on Jones. That may in fact be why the Irish have made so much progress. Jones was, after all, a high school teammate of the Rezacs.

While Notre Dame football is in good standing, it’s not clear when Christian Jones is going to make a decision. “I still have no timeline of when I'll commit,” he reportedly said. “I am just letting everything come to me and not running toward anything. Making a great decision is very important for me.”
