Over the last year and a half, there’s been a ton of talk about how much the Notre Dame football program has changed how it does business on the recruiting front. Marcus Freeman has gotten a ton of respect for that. However, there’s one man who probably deserves more credit.

Quarterback coach Gino Guidugli is someone who has started to get more credit of late. And as Ryan Roberts of Irish Breakdown recently wrote, he will only get more.

:”The words ‘energetic’, ‘relentless’ and ‘outstanding’ have been used often to describe Guidugli,” Roberts wrote. “And his efforts as a recruiter. The results have followed.”

Guidugli has shown bright in quarterback recruiting especially. He was instrumental in landing CJ Carr in the 2024 class. And then of course, there’s Deuce Knight in the 2025 cycle.

Knight is of course, a hell of a get considering that Notre Dame has never seen this type of talent under center. 6-5, 205-pound quarterbacks with 4.5 second speed and cannon for arms don’t come around often, especially to a place like South Bend. But Guidugli has started to get that turned around.

And then there’s the latest Irish grab. They ended up getting Lake Mary (Fla.) High School standout Noah Grubbs, who is one of the more prolific passers in the country. Not only that, but had they not gotten Grubbs, they almost certainly would have landed Brady Hart, who is just a few ticks below Grubbs on most databases.

The Notre Dame football quarterbacks coach has been tireless when it comes to recruiting. That’s certainly something that’s needed in this day and age. And that means he’s already started working on the 2027 class. If the last few years are any indication, he’ll have big success there too.
