When the Notre Dame football kicks off on Saturday against Texas A&M, they’re entering the game as an underdog. However, head coach Marcus Freeman has at least one weapon that Aggies’ head coach Mike Elko is worried about in Riley Leonard.

As it turns out, there is at least one player Irish head man Marcus Freeman is worried about on the Aggies as well. The big difference here is that it’s not clear where Terry Bussey is playing from one down to the next.

The Notre Dame football head coach went out of his way to talk about Bussey during his press conference on Monday. And when he talked about Bussey he made it clear they’re trying to plan for any occasion.

Notre Dame football has one player they’re planning for most

“We'll have to know where he's at,” Freeman said about Bussey. “He'll have to be accounted for.”

That comment belies more than the average fan might understand. The reason the Irish will need to know where Bussey “is at” is because even Elko isn’t quite sure where the former 5-star prospect will lineup on Saturday.

Or if he is sure, he’s not telling anyone yet. Though it’s possible the Aggies are still working out the details in their game plan.

"He is a kid that has a lot of value," Elko said last week. "We have talked about his flexibility. We have moved him around a little bit ... Where he ultimately ends up still a little bit up in the air."

Adding to the mystery is that Bussey is not listed on Texas A&M’s depth chart. Obviously some of the reason for that is that Elko wants to keep how they’ll use him a secret. But it’s also likely he isn’t a starter at any position yet, but more of a backup do-it-all.

However, he used, the Notre Dame football team is aware of the true freshman athlete and knows that if and when he does set foot on the field, it will need to keep track of him and make sure a man is one him.
