While the Notre Dame football team is currently leading 14-0 against Purdue in the first half of the game, not everything is going the Fighting Irish way. In fact, it looks as though Riley Leonard and company are going to need to play the rest of the game without yet another offensive lineman.

On Notre Dame's third offensive possession of the game, Billy Schrauth went down on the field after a play and had to be helped off. That meant that backup Rocco Spindler came into the game.

The good news is that Notre Dame football marched down the field to get their second score of the game. The bad news is that reports soon after the offensive lineman left is that the issue has to do with his right knee and that he headed to the locker room.

Schrauth is now the third o-lineman for the Blue and Gold who will miss at least some time this year, just three weeks into the season. Charles Jagusah, the projected starter at right tackle was lost for the year early in fall camp.

Notre Dame football takes another hit on the offensive line

Last week, it was Tosh Baker's turn to miss some time. Baker, who was originally thought to be doing battle for the starting tackle spot has been a backup so far in 2024. He missed the contest against Northern Illinois but appears to be healthy for the game against Purdue.

The prognosis for Schrauth doesn't look good when it comes to him returning for this game. With the Irish up 14-0, the offense will hopefully be able to keep the pressure on the Boilermakers.

The offensive line for Notre Dame football has looked a bit snakebit so far this season. So have, for that matter, the entire Irish team. For now, Billy Schrauth is just another thing for ND faithful to worry about in a season that was supposed to be relatively worry free.
