While Sam Hartman is trying earn himself a spot on an NFL roster, it turns out he’s officially got a backup plan. The former Notre Dame football star could go pro, even if his workouts in OTAs gets him an invite to a fall camp.

The big question is, whether Hartman is going to answer that’s coming from the UFL. He might be more receptive once NFL fall camps are over and he doesn’t have a chair with one of the league’s teams.

The former Notre Dame football star officially has a chance to make a go with it in the UFL thanks to being selected by the Birmingham Stallions. The league champions had two very good quarterbacks this past season, but as is life in the spring football league, there’s zero guarantee either will be back for the 2025 season.

Ex-Notre Dame football star gets the call from the UFL

It’s not clear exactly what goes into when a UFL team makes a selection like this, but one has to think the possibility that the draft pick will actually report to its respective team has to big on the list.

That would explain why someone with the talent level of Sam Hartman didn’t get selected until the 9th round of a 10-round draft. One would have to think he would have gone higher if there were any expectations he ever actually plays with the Stallions.

Or at least that they were anywhere near the top of the list of priorities.

Hartman will clearly try to catch on in the NFL. That despite the fact that his senior season with Notre Dame didn’t go as expected. He does still have talent that a team might recognize.

It will be interesting to watch the ex-Notre Dame football star and see where his pro career takes him.
