Notre Dame football scores legacy commitment on Pot of Gold Day

Jerome Bettis Jr is exactly the kind of buried treasure the Fighting Irish were hoping for when Pot of Gold Day kicked off.

St. Patrick’s Day is always a special time in South Bend, but this year’s Pot of Gold Day for the Notre Dame football team has landed them an actual treasure. Legacy prospect Jerome Bettis Jr announced his commitment to Marcus Freeman and company early Sunday morning.

That the Fighting Irish landed Bettis Jr is hardly a shock. He’s the son of Notre Dame football legend Jerome Bettis Sr

However, even if his commitment isn’t a surprise, it’s a nice boost to a 2025 recruiting class that continues to be at the top of the list among the best teams in the country. One reason for that is that Freeman also has one of the most populous classes for the 2025 cycle.

Notre Dame now has 19 commits in this class. Quite an accomplishment for March 17.

Jerome Bettis Jr hails out of Woodward Academy in Georgia. The 3-star wide receiver might have committed to Notre Dame football on Sunday but it’s likely the teams that lost out aren’t going to back off.

The highly touted high schooler has seen his stock rise over the last few weeks alone. On Friday, Bettis got three new offers from Kansas, Louisville, and Temple. Still, the pull to follow in his father’s footsteps was too much.

Bettis said as much about following in his dad’s feet in his commitment video on social media.

The legacy prospect also pointed out in that video that while he is following his father, he’s also making his own legacy. It’s clear Notre Dame football wasn’t just recruiting him because of his name.

He’s shown off the ability to make a name for himself. At a different position. Wearing a different number.

Jerome Bettis Jr. is part of a different generation of Notre Dame football commits. And his future teammates will no doubt welcome him to the club.
