There is an awful lot of excitement about tonight’s matchup between the Notre Dame football team and the Texas A&M Aggies. However, it’s possible that Marcus Freeman and his social media team wanted everyone to know that he thinks it’s be easier if everyone just called down a little.

Since Freeman arrived in South Bend, there’s been a lot of things that the new regime has ramped up big time. Among them has been the way the team uses social media. And that’s not different just ahead of the game against the SEC squad.

The social media team certainly seemed to be sending a message. What that message might be, is the thing that hasn’t been solved just yet. But it’s definitely possible the Notre Dame football coach and his social media team just wants everyone to chill.

Notre Dame football wants everyone to chill

On the day the Irish left on their journey to Texas, the team's official twitter account posted a hype video of the players featuring the 1988 hip hop song "You Gots To Chill" by artists EPMD.

SI’s John Kennedy is among those who believes the video was a message. From what the song was, to when the song was released and everything in between.

“It isn't lost on me that this song was released in 1988,” Kennedy wrote. “Which also happens to be the last year Notre Dame won a national championship. Random coincidence? Possibly. A throwback to the future? Notre Dame fans would like to think so.”

“Additionally,” he added. “The title of the song Notre Dame from the 1980s makes me wonder if this is a response to all of the noise during the massive buildup to this game.”

That’s certainly not a bad guess. I will admit I thought that was a very odd choice for a hype video song. It’s definitely not the adrenaline pumpers you normally see for this sort of thing.

Perhaps he’s figured out the Notre Dame football code as they prepare for Texas A&M.
