In the last few weeks and months there have certainly been discussion about what the Notre Dame football rivalry with USC means to the sport as a whole. Things are especially changing because of the Trojans joining the Big Ten.

There are even some people who believe the rivalry needs to come to an end. USC fans are talking about dropping the Irish from their schedule so that it wouldn’t be as difficult.

One thing is very true about the rivalry between Notre Dame football and USC. And that’s people still care about it. Even if some online trolls have decided to try and get clout by claiming otherwise.

Big Game Boomer, whom is best known for putting lists together about college football, decided to comment on a question posed by On3 about the best rivalry in the sport.

The choices were Notre Dame/USC, Michigan/Ohio State, Auburn/Alabama, Oklahoma/Texas, and Florida State/Miami.

“Nobody cares about USC/Notre Dame,” Big Game Boomer wrote. “Swap them out with the Egg Bowl.”

The idea that “nobody cares” about this game is silly. It’s a big game most years. Even when the two teams aren’t competing for national titles, it draws a lot of eyes.

There’s also the rather ridiculous notion that more people would care about Ole Miss/Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl than this game. It’s been a long time since that game has determined anything beyond who the best team in Mississippi is one year over another.

It’s worth pointing out that when the Golden Domers routed USC last year, the Trojans were still undefeated. Granted, they won just one game for the rest of the season, but at the time the two teams met, the Notre Dame football seemingly took down a playoff contender. And a Heisman front runner. People cared. And they’ll continue caring.
