It’s been more than a little while since the Notre Dame football team landed a commitment. It looks like the dryspell might just about be over.

That is if the Fighting Irish are able to win the battle for a legacy prospect that has seemed to be a lean towards Notre Dame for quite a while now. That prospect hinted that he’s going to pull the trigger “soon” and every tea leave that’s pointed in a direction leading to South Bend.

Notre Dame football braces for legacy prospect’s commitment announcement

Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng, a 4-star linebacker with the IMG Academy in Manassas, VA is one of the most sought after defenders in his class. But the Irish are hoping that his many visits to town, and the fact that his brother played for the progrma will be enough to convince him to keep the legacy going.

Boateng is considered the 52nd-ranked player in his class by 247Sports. He’s the younger brother of former Fighting Irish star Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, who is now chasing down offensive stars with the Cleveland Browns.

"I can see myself playing at NotreDame. My brother went there, and he succeeded. Why not follow that legacy and carry that legacy on?" The top-rated outside linebacker prospect said earlier this spring.

His recruitment is coming to an end. On Sunday Owusu-Boateng announced he was announcing his new school “soon.” He then clarified that it would be in the next couple of days.

The timing is no coincidence. A new dead period has begun for college football teams but quite a few prospects have already informed teams they were committing. Some are just sitting on the announcement for a few days to add to the excitement.

Notre Dame football fans have to hope that’s the case with Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng and he’ll be a member of the Irish soon.
