One of the newest additions to the Notre Dame Football team has actually been in the portal since February. However, with the portal now officially open, things are ramping up for the former Rice defensive back.

Part of the ramp-up for Tre’shon Devones is that he’s visiting South Bend on Thursday. While it doesn’t appear that he’s super close to announcing his next school just yet, getting him in town is a big step forward for the Notre Dame Football program. At the very least, the Irish are very high on his apparent list.

Devones was ranked as a four-star defensive back by On3’s system and he posted 45 tackles and 2 interceptions in 2023. The 6-foot-0, 187-pound CB is also in the process of scheduling visits to Houston and Tulane.

There are other schools that are attempting to get the former Rice defender’s attention as well. Nebraska, Rutgers, and Vanderbilt are hoping to get a visit before Devones pulls the trigger. Whether or not they can make enough progress is an open question.

It’s worth pointing out that Notre Dame Football already has one of the most talented defensive backfields in the country. However, they did lose one of the guys who would at least be a contributor if not a starter in Clarence Lewis earlier this spring.

It would seem likely that Devones would have his work cut out for him to start for the Golden Domers. He has to know that. But he’s still willing to give South Bend a look.

That’s an impressive get for Marcus Freeman and company, even if they don’t win the recruiting battle. That they might is just a cherry on top of the sundae that is their recruiting efforts this spring. We’ll know more once he wraps up his visit to Notre Dame Football.
