The Notre Dame offense for the last two years has been highlighted by the terrific runs and plays of running back Jeremiyah Love. However, in 2025, the Irish went through a change at the quarterback position, and it was one that could serve Notre Dame for years to come.
CJ Carr won what was a close quarterback battle against Kenny Minchey for the 2025 football season, and it proved that head coach Marcus Freeman truly has a special eye for talent. Carr went on to have a phenomenal freshman season, throwing for 2,741 yards, 24 touchdowns, and only six interceptions.
Carr not only earned the respect and trust of Freeman but also of his fellow teammates. Based on what some of those teammates said at the NFL Combine, Carr is one player everyone should watch out for next season.
Former teammates like Malachi Fields, Jadarian Price, and Jeremiyah Love all sang the praises of Carr, and at times took over the media portions. Carr was talked about so much that some might have thought he was showcasing his talents at the NFL Combine.

CJ Carr is poised for a big Year 2 at Notre Dame
The Notre Dame offense is going to look very different next season without Jeremiyah Love in the backfield running the ball. However, without Love or even Jadarian Price on the field, it could open up the passing game for CJ Carr.
Carr got some big upgrades in the wide receiver room with Quincy Porter and Mylan Graham coming from Ohio State. The duo will bring some pop to the wide receiver group, as well as Jordan Faison, who will return for the Irish this season.
With the new additions in the passing game, Carr has the chance to really take a step forward this season and showcase his passing ability. It was hard not to just give the ball to Love or Price on almost every play, but down the pressure will be on Carr to make the play, and pressure tends to make diamonds.
