Notre Dame’s ’18 recruiting class adds another top talent in Braden Lenzy of Portland, OR.

I have spoken with Braden Lenzy several times throughout his recruitment and can safely say that he is a ‘mature beyond his years’ young man who will thrive at the University of Notre Dame. I spoke with him earlier today and here’s what he had to say.

"“I love Notre Dame due to the family feel and what it can do for me after football. If I go there, I’m set for life.”"

Lenzy visited Notre Dame a few weeks ago for Junior Day and was blown away by his visit. He wasn’t ready to pull the trigger as he had visits to Oregon and USC lined up for the following weekend.

I spoke with him the day he returned from his visit. You can read that article below.

During his visit, Lenzy bonded with other recruits, including WR Micah Jones who committed to Notre Dame on Friday, as well as current players C.J. Holmes and Chase Claypool.

His father also grew up in the area and both of his parents graduated from Purdue. He’s comfortable with the Mid-West and the weather that comes along with it. He prefers the cold over Oregon’s rain.

Also, distance doesn’t bother him like it does with some recruits from the west.

The big question going forward will be which side of the ball he will play on. Lenzy told me that Notre Dame was recruiting him initially as a defensive back. Todd Lyght had built a close relationship with him.

That focus seemed to shift as Brian Polian and DelVaughn Alexander began talking to him often and told Lenzy that they were recruiting him as a wide receiver and kick returner.

Lenzy has expressed to me more than once that he sees himself as a wide receiver at the next level and seems to truly love playing the position.

That said, staff could end up putting him at cornerback, which would give them a nasty tandem with himself and Kalon Gervin at cornerback with fringe 5 star safety Derrik Allen in the back end of the defense.

Lenzy is aware of this and OK with it as long as it’s whats best for him, the team and his family.

Braden Lenzy gives the Irish their 11th commitment in the ’18 recruiting class, less that a month after signing day. 10 of the commits are regarded as 4 star recruits by at least 1 recruiting service and several of them will be, or all ready are, All-Americans.

Lenzy brings elite speed and dynamic play making ability to the Fighting Irish. Although he’s an intelligent, mild mannered guy off the field, he plays with a lot of swagger and intensity on it.

Whichever position Lenzy plays at Notre Dame, he will definitely have every opportunity to be a difference maker as he has the dynamic skill set to truly excel at the college level.
