Notre Dame gets a short week leading up to the Nevada game.

There is nothing scary when you just mention that the Notre Dame Fighting Irish play the Nevada Wolfpack in South Bend this season. After all, Notre Dame has been gobbling up its non Power Five opponents for some time now, and even though Nevada won its bowl game in 2015, this shouldn’t get Notre Dame fans worried… right?

Well, maybe you should think again and while you’re at it grab a security blanket and hold on to that thing for dear life.

Why?

It’s a little thing called history my friends. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about that 2012 team, and once again, that 2012 team has something to teach us about this 2016 Notre Dame football team.

It’s all about the short week. In 2012, Notre Dame faced off against Navy in Dublin Ireland to start the season and then came home to play Purdue the next Saturday. This year, Notre Dame opens the season at Texas on a Sunday and then comes home to play Nevada on Suturday. Short weeks are killer- just watch those Thursday night games and you see why.

The 2012 Purdue game was a sloppy mess for Notre Dame as the shortness of the week due to international travel gave way to lethargic play, and an uninspired team- until the end when talent finally overcame the odds.

Not only will Notre Dame have a short week leading up to Nevada, but the Wolfpack will have even more rest as their opening game against Cal Poly is on a Friday night. We could very well see a game of similar fashion to the one against Purdue in 2012.
