Notre Dame Football: 6’5 WR Micah Jones Commits To Notre Dame

Notre Dame continues to bring in elite talent early and often.

Notre Dame offered Micah Jones, the 6’5, 200 lb. Gurnee, Illinois native, on June 24, 2016 after being in touch with him for some time.

Micah has visited campus more than once for unofficial visits where he reportedly enjoyed himself very much. He always spoke with high regard of Notre Dame throughout the whole process.

Given that he lives just a short drive away, Notre Dame always seemed to make sense for Jones.

Last weekend, Jones visited Notre Dame for Junior Day and again, had a great time. He especially bonded with WR/CB Braden Lenzy on the trip.

Before the visit, Jones was going to announce his commitment later in the year but he decided he had seen enough.

He made a Twitter announcement that he would be committing today and that he had cut his list down to Notre Dame, Illinois, Nebraska, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Northwestern and Iowa.

The writing was on the wall at this point.

Micah Jones has given his verbal commitment to Notre Dame, giving them 10 total commitments and 4 commitments in the last 4 days for their class of ’18.

Here’s Micah Jones Hudl highlight film from his Junior Season at Warren Township High.

What stands out most to me on film with Micah, other than his great height, is his polished route running. He’s clearly put in a lot of time working on that aspect and looks very precise and smooth.

Although he doesn’t have elite speed, something that could come with added strength and maturity, he shows good burst off the line and out of his breaks.

He uses his long arms to snag inaccurate balls and makes the necessary adjustments to catch most balls thrown his way. His massive catch radius is a huge plus.

He proves to be a willing, even nasty at times, blocker. This is something that may help his play as an underclassmen at the college level.

Given his height, I expect Jones to be targeted often in red zone packages during his career.

Given that Alize Jones, Equanimeous St. Brown and Chase Claypool are all moving on in the next couple of years, Micah Jones can help fill the role as the 6’4+ receiver that is so important in the Irish offense.

I expect Micah Jones to continue to mature which will help him get on the field early in his career at Notre Dame.
