McClain has solid fundamentals, good length and a great frame. He looks all of 6’4 and I would say he will probably push his weight up to the 250 lb. range over the next few years without losing speed or mobility.

What I like the most is his ability as an edge rusher, something that he takes to naturally. He can get after the quarterback in a hurry and deliver a powerful, effective tackle when he gets there.

He shows good lateral speed and his pursuit skills are solid, taking good angles to the ball carrier. He shows good burst off the line and diagnoses the play at an advanced level.

I can see McClain excelling as the stand-up end in Mike Elko’s scheme. If he continues to improve his technical skills as well as gain size and strength, he could be a very popular name by signing day.

With only a few spots available for defensive ends in this cycle, McClain may need to visit Notre Dame soon to decide on whether or not he’s interested in being Irish.

I like McClain right now. Next year, he could be one of my favorites.
