Ja’mion Franklin will leave for South Bend today to visit Notre Dame.

6’2, 310 pound Ja’mion Franklin has been in contact with Notre Dame staff for weeks now and has been anticipating today’s visit in a big way.

The brute defensive tackle out of Maryland has been in contact with Mike Elston, Mike Elko and Clark Lea, a good example of the team-like recruiting effort that the Irish staff have been utilising to show recruits they mean business.

Franklin, grossly underrated by most recruiting services, has been receiving more interest than a typical recruit with a 2 star billing. He recently spent the weekend at Clemson for their Junior Day. Although he left without an offer, they certainly are interested.

I caught up with Franklin to find out what he’s looking forward to during his stop. “Catching practice and getting a tour of campus and finding out more about ND tradition,” explained Franklin.

This will be Franklin’s first visit and through our conversations in the past, it’s been abundantly clear that he not only possesses a fairly strong knowledge of who Notre Dame is and what they’re about, he sings high praise about the football program and the quality degree available.

“I think an offer is a possibility. I’d be ecstatic about getting an offer,” Franklin stated when I asked whether he feels staff will be offering him a scholarship this weekend.

It’s unclear why the Irish coaching staff have not offered Ja’mion at this point. There are other defensive tackles on the board who are considered possibilities as far as interest is concerned, which may play a factor considering the low amount of roster spots in this class.

Sam Mustipher’s brother, P.J, is one name that comes to mind among several quality interior lineman from across the nation who hold Irish offers.

I asked Franklin if committing during the visit is a possibility if he were to get an offer. “I don’t have a timetable on committing,” he explained.

It seems that Ja’mion Franklin is very vocal in his admiration of Notre Dame and all facets of who they are and the education that they offer. He may be holding out to see how things play out in his recruitment, or simply waiting for the offer so he can commit. We’ll likely find out soon.

Franklin is a well-spoken, humble guy who maintains a high G.P.A. and seems like a good fit at Notre Dame. His stature and style of play suggests that he will be a great fit at the nose tackle position at the college level.

At this point, Notre Dame have only one defensive tackle committed in the ’18 class – Jayson Ademilola – who projects to play the defensive tackle position in South Bend.

It will be interesting to see how things shake out this weekend regarding the anticipated offer and whether or not Franklin would commit if it’s put on the table. I feel it’s certainly a possibility but he seems to be keeping things to himself in that regard.
