With the parting of John Thompson III, Georgetown is looking for a new man to hold the reigns. As a familiar face, Mike Brey could be a top candidate for the job. According to the Washington Post, there’s a list of names Georgetown is looking at and Brey is atop that list.

Along with Brey, the Hoyas are looking into Tommy Amaker and Shaka Smart, along with others. As three very well respected coaches in college basketball, Georgetown appears to be searching for the home run hire this time around.

Coming off a 14-18 season, finishing ninth in the Big East, Georgetown is in desperate need of a winning season. With two Elite Eight appearances in the last three seasons, Brey’s resume stands out amongst coaches they’re pursuing. Add his knowledge of Georgetown, and he’s the prime candidate.

On top of it all, Brey is a hometown boy, born in Bethesda and a graduate of George Washington. If Georgetown is looking to pull the local Maryland guy, Brey is going to be high on their radar.

For Notre Dame, they’re hoping Brey isn’t thinking about leaving South Bend. For the last 15 years, Brey has built the Irish into an ACC powerhouse. With the recent success they’ve had over the last three seasons, all the hard work Brey has put into the program is finally starting to pay off.

Notre Dame has one of Maryland’s top recruits headed to South Bend next season. With Matt Farrell and the possibility of Bonzie Colson returning, there may be too much to pass up. Add the love the Notre Dame community has for Brey, and there’s not much chance he’s leaving.

Either way, we hope for the best for Coach Brey in the future; whether it be at Notre Dame or Georgetown.
