6’5, 200-pound Madison Norris is hearing from Notre Dame.

Fishers, Indiana standout Madison Norris is on Notre Dame’s radar. The Irish have been heavily targeting long, tall and explosive defensive ends to add to Mike Elko’s new defense, this off-season.

At this point in time, Norris has a slight build, which may throw some people off given his position, but he possesses a long, lanky frame that should be able to add significant muscle mass

He shows intriguing explosion off of the snap, can shoot gaps well and shows a considerable speed rush from the edge. Last season for Hamilton Southeastern High School, Norris tallied 67 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and 8 sacks.

With some hard work in the weight room, Norris should raise those totals which will provide his team with an even more dynamic presence at the weak side defensive end position in 2017.

“I’m trying to get around 210 to 215 pounds right now,” stated Norris. “I’m just running track right now.” Norris plans to maintain his current weight in order to maintain his speed until track season ends.

I asked Norris which position he feels his skill set suits best at the college level. “I feel I’d be the most valuable and effective at a hybrid linebacker-defensive end spot,” answered Norris.

Coach Mike Elston has been checking in on the in-state talent. “They have done quite a bit of inquiry at my school with coaches lately and my coaches say they plan to offer,” Norris announced.

“Coach Elston said that it’s a long process and I will have to visit to see what our future will be,” Norris explained. “Hopefully, I will be able to visit this spring.”

Norris is impressed with both sides of the spectrum of the University of Notre Dame. “I think Notre Dame is a great school to be a part of with top of the line academics and a good football team,” he explained.

Norris has 11 offers at this time, including Indiana, Minnesota, Tennessee, Pittsburgh and North Carolina State. “Indiana, Purdue, Tennessee and Minnesota are schools that give me the most attention,” said Norris.

“I don’t have a top list yet. I plan to have it around the next football season,” added Norris.

Notre Dame has been very active in terms of scheduling unofficial visits during their spring practices as well as for their Blue and Gold game, which will be a big recruiting weekend for them.
