Last season, DeShone Kizer’s favorite target was Equanimeous St. Brown. This season, he looks to lead Notre Dame football and be one of the best in the NCAA.

At 6’4, 220-pounds, Equanimeous St. Brown is the perfect combination of athleticism, speed, and size. His big play possibility to second-to-none and former Notre Dame quarterback, DeShone Kizer, loved to use him every chance he got last season.

This year, St. Brown returns with a new quarterback in Brandon Wimbush, but as an even better player. Working with new offensive coordinator, Chip Long’s scheme, this offensive attack is going to be quick, and it’s going to be dangerous.

While Wimbush may be inexperienced, he’s stepping into an offense filled with some of the best athletes in college football. Therefore, his adjustment to the starting lineup may not take as long as most quarterbacks need. When he gets comfortable, he’ll start looking for St. Brown on almost every occasion. Being the freak receiver that he is, St. Brown is going to take full advantage of the love.

In his first year as a starter, St. Brown pulled in 58 receptions for 961 yards and nine touchdowns. On a team who finished 4-8 and had almost nothing positive going for them last season, St. Brown found his stride and continued to impress even when the Irish struggled.

This year, he’s an entirely new element. The first-year jitters are gone and his confidence after last year should be as high as it could possibly get. Add that to his improved skill set and work with one of the best offensive minds in college football and St. Brown becomes one of the best receivers in the country.

There’s no doubt Notre Dame’s receiving core will be better than last season. Added experience for some players like C.J. Sanders, Miles Boykin, and Chase Claypool will all have much more going for them in 2017 than they did in 2016. But leading the charge once again will be St. Brown.

This season it isn’t about being the best for the Irish or in each game he plays. St. Brown will be competing as one of the best in college football. As a junior with a real chance to make some noise in 2017, St. Brown is going to come out firing. The end result should be a label as one of, if not the, best receiver in the NCAA.

Expect him to be the brightest spot on Notre Dame’s offense. Last year, outside of Kizer, he was the best thing going for the Irish. Add more weapons to take away coverage from him, a year of experience, add bulk, and a new and improved offense and St. Brown has the formula to be one of the best in Notre Dame history.

Don’t be shocked when St. Brown dominates the NCAA. This year, it isn’t about being the best for the Fighting Irish. It’s about being the best in the sport. With it, Notre Dame is going to be one of the scariest receiving teams in the country.
