It’s finally here, one of the biggest weeks of every year for the Notre Dame football program. It’s the first time since 2009 that Notre Dame and USC have both been ranked while facing off in this storied rivalry.

At the beginning of the season, we looked at this game as one that could have major effects on the College Football Playoff. It’s now regained that status as Notre Dame comes in at No. 13 and USC No. 11. Both one-loss teams still have to look at going undefeated for the rest of the season to remain in those conversations. Notre Dame’s sole loss coming to Georgia by one point and USC’s to Washington State 30-27.

As if it’s never a good one, let’s get ready for a great matchup for the Jeweled Shillelagh with 3 bold predictions

Prediction #1: Notre Dame will have two 150+ rushers

It’s no secret that Notre Dame is going to run the ball this week. It’s the way the Irish have found most success this season and it will be the key way to expose the Trojans.

USC currently ranks No. 61 nationally in rushing yards allowed per game at 146.7 yards through the first seven games of the season. But, it’s not just that. USC is hurt, hurt deep. On the defensive side of the ball alone, defensive end Rasheem Green has been trying to push through pain while being limited this week at practice. Linebacker Porter Gustin and defensive tackle Josh Fatu are both out for this week. To top it off, defensive tackle Marlon Tuipulotu was lost for the season after having a season-ending back surgery.

The USC defense is beginning to look sparse and that’s the worst thing they could wish for going into Notre Dame. The Irish will be the best offensive line USC has had to face this season. It’s not just about the line, it’s about whom they are protecting.

Behind the O line is dual-threat QB Brandon Wimbush who is hard enough to contain. Even more dangerous is when Wimbush hands it off. Josh Adams has been a nightmare to try and stop. The Irish also have Dexter Williams and Deon McIntosh. The only reason why I have trouble making this prediction is that Notre Dame has so many rushers. Easily all these guys can have big days on the ground this weekend.
