Notre Dame’s Top 2018 Recruit Will Have ACL Surgery
By Chase Eyrich
The best recruiting class Notre Dame has ever had just had a major blow as top commit Prentiss Hubb will have season-ending ACL surgery.
Prentiss Hubb, a 2018 four-star recruit for Notre Dame announced on Twitter that he will be having season-ending surgery on his ACL. Ultimately becomes a huge harm to his Highschool, Gonzaga’s chances of repeating last years successful 32-5 record. The team finished last season with a national ranking of 19th.
There was a light shining on this recruiting class once Hubb committed to Notre Dame last May. The Guard was expected to land at Maryland, coming from D.C. But, Mike Brey’s system and the ACC seemed more appealing to him.
The 6’2″ Point Guard has a 4-star, 0.9734 247SPORTS rating, which ranked him as the 52 recruit in the country.
Just as Matt Farrell leaves, Hubb will join D.J. Harvey, T.J. Gibbs and Rex Pflueger in the backcourt in 2018.
Hubb comes in extremely impressive with his quickness. He always had the ability to make a defender step back just enough so he could pull up. The way he can run the court makes it exciting to see what he could do in Brey’s system as the Irish have been pushing the ball more offensively lately.
What makes him even more of a threat is his passing, something Notre Dame is also known for. The ball movement in South Bend has been part of their success in the last few years and shouldn’t skip a beat with Hubb coming in.

This is an ACL surgery that will end his Senior season at Gonzaga. While we don’t have a timetable for his recovery, it takes about three months before you are most safe to return to athletic activity. It typically takes about six months to be fully ready to get back into the swing of things.
This all depends on the severity of the injury and surgery as well as the person in general, but six months from now puts us around the beginning of May 2018.
The NCAA lets teams begin practicing officially 42 days before the team’s first competition. The season typically begins around the beginning of November.
This leaves a decent amount of time between May (normal recovery time) and the 1st official practice (mid-September) for Hubb to rehabilitate back to basketball form. The unfortunate part is that it can take eight to 12 months to get back to high-level competitive basketball.
This brings us extremely close to the beginning of next season. But, again the incoming Freshman will be playing behind D.J. Harvey, T.J. Gibbs and Rex Pflueger. All players that can do extream damage.
This comes as a huge damper on Hubb and fans of Gonzaga (D.C.) as well as Notre Dame. But, Hubb seems to be in the right mindset and we wish him the best of recovering from this surgery.
#Minorsetbackforamajorcomeback as Hubb says.
