Prediction #3: The front seven will bounce back

Last week against Wake Forest was Notre Dame’s worst performance of the year by far defensively. It’s not because Wake Forest did anything special, they played a pretty good game on that side of the ball.

The main problem came with the fact that Notre Dame had a comfortable lead for a good portion of the game. Normally a good problem to have, but the Irish’s defense relaxed and that was the issue.

Before last week Notre Dame was the only team in the country to not allow an opponent to score over 20 points. That’s no longer the case as Wake Forest was able to tack on some points late for a total of 37 points.

While this isn’t the front seven Notre Dame had to push the Irish to the National Championship game in 2012, they’re still extremely impressive.

Notre Dame had only allowed one rushing touchdown all season while going into last week. Wake Forest had 11 rushing TDs entering the game. Something had to give, and it did. Wake Forest rushed for 239 yards and three TDs. The only team to do either against Notre Dame.

The defense recognized right away that their performance wasn’t up to the standards set by this team. We know the caliber of which they can perform at, so the fact that they knew right away provides the confidence that it won’t happen again.

Miami has a strong runner in Travis Homer but I don’t see him having a big game against this hungry defensive unit.
