Almost everyone has written off the Notre Dame football team’s opportunity of playing in the College Football Playoff. But, college football is a chaotic sport. Every week, a team falls in a massive upset. Despite being ranked No. 8 in the latest poll and sitting with two losses, could chaos ensue and land the Fighting Irish at the No. 4 spot?

Let the chaos begin!

Roll Tide! Alabama continues to win through the SEC Championship and ends the season ranked as the No. 1 seed in the playoff. This would mean giving Georgia their second loss and Auburn their third. This would effectively eliminate the Tigers.

But, it would not get Notre Dame past the Bulldogs. Georgia would have a better resume and a head-to-head victory over the Irish. But, that is okay because Paul Johnson and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets beat the Bulldogs a week earlier. A Kentucky victory over Georgia would work as well.

What about the undefeated Wisconsin Badgers? Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines beat the Badgers this week. Wisconsin is already guaranteed a spot in the Big Ten Championship. This is where Ohio State defeats the Badgers, giving them their second loss. Wisconsin’s resume would not matchup to Notre Dame’s.

The turnover chain needs to crush the Clemson Tigers in the already slated ACC Championship game. Although Clemson would have two losses, the same as the Irish, the Tigers lost to Syracuse. The loss is an ugly blemish on the resume of the Tigers.

Baker Mayfield’s Heisman campaign needs to come to a halt immediately. The Kansas Jayhawks probably could not beat the Sooners (or almost any team). Therefore, the West Virginia is the best hope. They definitely can beat the Sooners. Oklahoma would still land in the Big 12 Championship game. TCU needs to come out with the Big 12 Championship and eliminate the Sooners.

At this point, the Irish are in striking range. The big question would then be up to the committee. Does Notre Dame’s stellar play against Michigan State, USC, NC State and Stanford (a Notre Dame blowout win that still needs to happen) stack up against a Big 10 Champion Ohio State? It seems to be a better resume. However, the Buckeyes would be a conference champion. That could be the difference.

So, yes, there is a chance. The Irish just need to hit on a 14-part parlay bet. That happens all the time, right?
