The Notre Dame basketball team had a dominant 105-66 win over Chicago State led by a career night for T.J. Gibbs

A dunk to start off the game for Martinas Geben and that was pretty much when this game ended.

Going in we all knew Notre Dame was going to dominate every facet of the game and that’s exactly what they did. Chicago State just lacked the personnel to be able to keep up with the Fighting Irish.

In no time at all the Irish would burst out to a 30-8 lead showing great defense. The Cougars struggling to find their shot ended up going 3-15 from the field at the 7:37 mark in the first. Notre Dame already racking up four blocks at that point with three coming from Bonzie Colson.

The Irish kept the heat on with Matt Farrell, Colson and T.J. Gibbs providing. Going into the locker room at half with a 56-29 point lead, the three combined for 36 points. Gibbs leading all scorers with 13 and Colson already only four rebounds away from a double-double.

The experimenting started early for the Irish with their comfortable lead. At one point we saw flashes of what will come next year with Rex Pflueger, D.J. Harvey, Nikola Djogo, John Mooney and Elijah Burns.

Harvey had himself a career night which also came before halftime with eight points. He would end the night with 16 points off the bench.

Second half action brought some relaxed defense and a Chicago State run. This one was never in question as Notre Dame kept hitting on the offensive end.

Gibbs continued to grab everyone’s attention as he marked his career high 23 points shooting 8-9 field goals, 3-3 three-pointers and 3-3 at the line. He would end the night remaining with 23 points.

Everything would be clicking for the Irish even as they went to slow things down with over ten minutes remaining in the game.

Colson would head to the bench with seven minutes left to play, ending his streak of ten games of scoring 18 or more and leaving him without a double-double. Colson finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and an assist.

The crowd was never as loud as they were when from the corner; Matt Gregory hit is first career three-pointer.
