Notre Dame basketball 2019 point guard target Joe Girard III trimmed his list of potential suitors to six on June 16th. Coach Brey and the Fighting Irish were fortunate enough to make the cut.

Joe Girard III has trimmed his list, and Notre Dame basketball is one of four Atlantic Coast Conference teams in the final six.

While Duke has been considered the front runner since they offered a scholarship to JG3 on February 21st, it would appear that his recruitment is more up in the air than people initially realized.

Aside from Duke, the Michigan Wolverines have also been mentioned as one of the favorites in this recruitment, given head coach John Beilein’s relationship with Girard’s father.  The wrinkle with Michigan is that they are the Crystal Ball leader for the 25th ranked player in the 2019 class, DJ Carton. Girard’s offer with Michigan may be contingent on whether or not Carton is planning on becoming a Wolverine.

Notre Dame is in an interesting situation with Girard. While the Irish recruiting class for 2018 is perimeter dominant, Girard could fill a potential hole at the two spot if Temple Gibbs has the type of junior season we (me) are expecting.

Girard is listed as a combo guard and could slide in nicely alongside Prentiss Hubb for the 2019-20 season. Considering Girard is the all time leading scorer in New York State history and averaged over 50 points a game his junior season, I’m sure Coach Brey wouldn’t be opposed. It should also be mentioned that Girard’s AAU teammate, Isaiah Stewart , is the number one post prospect target for Coach Brey in the 2019 class.

Next: Why Notre Dame Is Best For Isaiah Stewart

While package deals almost never work out, the possibility of that package should make Irish fans ecstatic.
