Notre Dame Football: Mustipher Named “Most Underrated” By ESPN

ESPN listed its most underrated players for 2018. Sam Mustipher was their choice for Notre Dame football.

As the 2018 Notre Dame football season inches closers, more preseason lists and honors are being released.

On Tuesday, ESPN published its list of the most underrated players on what they believe are the Top 25 teams in the country. They had Notre Dame at No. 12, and chose center Sam Mustipher as the Irish representative.

Mustipher’s relative obscurity — based mostly on the position he plays — probably won’t last long. Between articles like the one by ESPN and outlets like Athlon adding him to their preseason All-American team, a lot of people are going to know his named by the time the season begins.

Once the 2018 season gets rolling, he’ll likely be the focal point of any praise the Notre Dame offensive line receivers.

Sam Mustipher was named to the Rimington Award Watch List in 2017 as well as this season.

He started every game for the Irish last year and was a key piece of one of the best offensive lines in the country — helping the Irish offense most the ball at a clip of over 417 yards per game.

Walterfootball.com currently lists Mustipher as the No. 6 overall prospect at his position for the 2019 NFL Draft.

Additionally, he’ll head into the 2018 campaign with the comfort of know he already has his degree. He graduated this past May:

Preseason honors and accolades are great, but Notre Dame fans are going to want to see him live up to the hype on the actual field of play. If Mustipher can live up to his potential and the expectations put on him nationally, it could be a magical season for the Irish.
