The recruiting fireworks have started for Notre Dame football.

2019 quarterback Brendon Clark out of Virginia has committed to play for Notre Dame football. Clark has had this decision date set for a little while now and wanted to do it on the Fourth of July.

After being committed to Wake Forest for almost a year, he decommitted a few days after receiving an offer from Notre Dame. He then took his official visit to South Bend the weekend of June 15th.

In all honesty, if he didn’t already have a new set date to commit, I think he would of pulled the trigger on campus. Plain and simple, the visit couldn’t have gone any better for him. He was down to three school with Notre Dame going up against North Carolina and Clemson.

But in the end, the feeling he had while visiting wasn’t going to get beat by either of those programs. The Irish were the team for him in the end.

At the moment, Clark holds 7 offers, including Clemson, North Carolina and Tennessee.

What will Clark bring at quarterback?

The 6-2, 220 pound quarterback is very poised for a Junior. He stands in the pocket and makes middle-of-the-field throws with ease and isn’t afraid to fit a ball into his receiver. The potential is there and he’s only going to continue progressing and improving his accuracy.

He’s also not afraid to get out of the pocket to use his feet. Clark’s got some “undercover” athleticism that you don’t expect and he seems to always use it at the right time.

He’s got really good arm strength to go along with the athleticism, so he throws a nice ball on the run too. The biggest thing he will need to improve on is his accuracy, but if he does — look out.. He could be a real good quarterback for Notre Dame.

The credit should go to Quarterback coach Tom Rees for landing Clark. After an early exit to a previous QB commit, he kept working hard and evaluating the guys he wanted. Once he got to know Clark a little more, he knew that was going to be the guy to go all out for to join the class.

Great job by Rees and offensive coordinator Chip Long for getting it done.

With Clark now choosing the Irish, Notre Dame has 16 commits — nine on defense and seven on offense — along with a punter. Look for the Irish to continue the fireworks later today. Stay tuned!
