Notre Dame football adds versatile JoJo Johnson to 2021 class

What will JoJo Johnson bring to South Bend?

The 5’11 180-pounder is going to bring some serious speed and athleticism. He plays both sides of the ball, more so wide receiver in high school, but Terry Joseph and the staff want him at corner to start, and I agree completely.

He has 10.8 100m speed which is outstanding. He doesn’t just have the straight line speed either, it’s his quickness and suddenness that really impress. Because he plays quite a bit of receiver he is a really smart player and reads the field really well. He has fluid hips and a nice break that will translate very well to the defensive side full time.

Cornerback coach Terry Joseph had a great relationship with him before they both moved on from Cincinnati as a former coach and commit. I trust Joseph completely with what he’s done so far on his resume, and his evaluation of talent. Johnson will definitely be raw in the secondary but you can’t teach speed and the Irish need more and more of that on the roster.

This is a nice addition late to the class and Johnson is someone who could definitely really surprise people once he gets to campus.

With Johnson’s commitment the Irish now have 24 pledges. He will be joining Lorenzo Styles Jr., Philip Riley, Ryan Barnes, Chance Tucker and Justin Walters in the secondary room for the 2021 class. Terry Joseph has an eye for talent and he didn’t want Johnson to slip through his fingers late in the game. He got his wish and JoJo is now all Irish!
