Notre Dame football: What the Irish offense can learn from Florida
By Brad Weiss
Notre Dame football has a tough task ahead of them against No. 1 Alabama, but they can learn from Florida’s loss to them in the SEC title game.
The Notre Dame football team will take on No. 1 Alabama in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day, going up against a team looking to claim Nick Saban’s seventh national title. For the Irish, they must go back and look at the job Florida did on offense against this Crimson Tide defense, as they put up 46 points, and nearly won the SEC title game.
Here are three things Ian Book and this Notre Dame offense can learn from Florida’s loss in the SEC Championship Game.
Get the tight ends involved
The Gators have an elite tight end in Kyle Pitts, someone who could be the only tight end selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Pitts was able to find room to operate against the Alabama defense, and while there is not a player of that caliber on this roster, yet, the Irish do have a solid group of players at the position group.
Freshman Michael Mayer has shown big-play ability in his first season in South Bend and is someone to keep an eye on in the short, and deep passing game. Also, Tommy Tremble and Brock Wright will have to figure into the gameplan against an Alabama defense with first-round picks all over it.
