The Notre Dame Men’s Basketball team picked up a huge conference win this past Sunday, winning for the second straight time for only the first time this season. The Irish have had their ups and downs this season, as a tough early-season schedule proved to be too much for a team that was trying to gel.

There were some bright spots, including the play of Nate Laszewski, who is rounding into one of the more complete big-men in the country. He and Juwan Durham have been fantastic in the paint for the Irish as of late, and the team is getting solid guard play from the likes of Dane Goodwin, Cormac Ryan, and Trey Wertz.

However, it has been the play of point guard Prentiss Hubb who has gotten this ship back on track, as he has played his most complete ball of the season, and is really starting to heat up for the Notre Dame Men’s Basketball team.

The big difference in terms of Hubb’s play has not been his ability to put the ball in the basket, as that has never been a problem for him. His issues stemmed from the fact that he was not doing a good enough job of getting his teammate involved early in the season, and that led to him taking ill-advised shots at ill-advised times.

Over the team’s two-game win streak, Hubb has had a pass-first attitude at times, and it has shown up in the box score, as he had a season-high ten assists against Boston College, and then nine more dimes on Sunday. Also, his unselfishness is actually freeing himself up for some open looks, and that has been reflected in his shooting percentages over the last two games.

The Irish have a tough stretch coming up, and it starts on Wednesday night against a very tough Virginia Tech team ranked No. 20 in the country. If Hubb can play the way he has recently, getting his shooter shots, and feeding Laszewski the ball, the Irish have enough offensive firepower to beat anybody, and Hubb is the straw that stirs that drink.
