Notre Dame Football: Drew Brees joins NBC as analyst for Irish games
By Brad Weiss
Future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees retired from the NFL this weekend and will join NBC as an analyst for Notre Dame Football games.
One of the great quarterbacking careers in NFL history came to a close this weekend, as New Orleans Saints star Drew Brees will hang them up after 20 years in the league. While he never played for Notre Dame Football, the retirement had an impact on the program, as he will be apart of NBC’s coverage of the team starting next season.
The Notre Dame Football program is entering another exciting era, as Marcus Freeman has arrived as defensive coordinator, and there is elite talent on both sides of the ball. Thanks to the addition of Freeman as part of the recruiting crew, the Irish are stacking incredible talent across the next few recruiting classes, making the future very bright in South Bend.
Notre Dame Football gets Brees as an analyst
Starting with this upcoming season, the Notre Dame Football program will see Brees serve as an analyst for their games as a member of the NBC Sports staff. In addition to doing the Notre Dame games, he is also going to be apart of the Sunday Night in America crew and will do the Super Bowl and the Olympics.
It has been rumored for a while that Brees would be joining the booth after retirement, and after his fading down the stretch this past season, it was clear it was time for him to retire. He is either first or second in NFL history in many statistical categories, including touchdowns and passing yards.
Brees played against the Notre Dame Football program on three occasions, battling the Irish every season from 1998 through 2000. While he did beat Notre Dame at home, he lost both games inside Notre Dame Stadium, finishing with a 1-2 record, five touchdowns, and four interceptions.
