Notre Dame Football: Nick McCloud raised his draft stock on Pro Day
By Brad Weiss
Notre Dame Football has plenty of draft prospects in 2021, and Nick McCloud took advantage of his Pro Day to put himself in the conversation.
The Notre Dame Football program had their Pro Day this past Wednesday, and there were plenty of prospects who raised their draft stock. We already know there are some definite draft picks in this draft cycle, including guys like Liam Eichenberg and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, who could be first round selections.
Nearly 20 players worked out at the Pro Day, and we saw some eye-popping statistics all over the place. However, it was a defensive back that really had the biggest surprise of the day, as Nick McCloud ran a 4.37 40-yard dash, cementing his place as a legitimate draft prospect.
The former NC State defensive back stepped up in a big way for the Notre Dame Football team in 2020, as he was a second-team All-ACC performer. Despite that, he has not gotten much draft buzz heading into the Pro Day, but after his performance on Wednesday, teams are certain to have him on their draft boards now.
Notre Dame Football could see ten players drafted
The 2021 NFL Draft could be a special one for this Notre Dame Football program, as they could have as many as ten players drafted across the three-day event. The Irish have won ten-or-more games in each of the last four seasons, and have been to two of the last three College Football Playoffs, putting themselves on the brink of joining the elite like Alabama, Ohio State, and Clemson.
This is a testament to the kind of program that Brian Kelly is building in South Bend. McCloud went into the Pro Day as just another prospect working out for the NFL scouts, but after running that 40-yard dash, it is clear he not only has the talent to be an NFL player, but he could end up hearing his name called on Day 3.
