Notre Dame Football: Ian Book will be a steal on Day 3 of 2021 NFL Draft
By Brad Weiss
The Notre Dame Football program had a true leader in Ian Book at quarterback, and he is going to be a sneaky steal on Day 3 of the 2021 NFL Draft.
The Notre Dame Football program had the luxury of having Ian Book as their quarterback the last few seasons, racking up the most wins of any signal-caller in program history. Leading the team to two College Football Playoff appearances, Book was able to get the job done with his arm, and his legs, and established himself as one of the great leaders in the country.
As they turn the page to Jack Coan for the 2021 college football season, the Irish are losing Book, but one NFL team is going to be happy they took a chance on him in the 2021 NFL Draft. He has that ability to make players better around him, and while he will likely be a Day 3 pick, he could end up being a steal when all is said and done.
Book showed on his Pro Day that he has incredible speed, running a 40-yard dash below 4.6, and based on the throwing display he put on at the Senior Bowl, a lot of questions about him have been answered. While the big-name quarterbacks are going to dominate the headlines in the 2021 NFL Draft, Book is someone who should not be overlooked.
Notre Dame Football loses their leader
With the loss of Book, Notre Dame Football is losing their leader, someone who the younger players could rely on. Luckily for the program, they are getting a proven winner in Jack Coan, a guy who led Wisconsin to a Big Ten title game, and who proved to be extremely accurate in the passing game.
The loss of Book is one of the big question marks on this roster heading into the summer, but Coan is established, and there are some solid guys behind him in true freshman Tyler Buchner, Brendon Clark, and Drew Pyne.
The Irish will roll with Coan at quarterback in 2021, sprinkling in Buchner and giving him some experience in a perfect world. That would enable Buchner to redshirt, gain some valuable game experience, and be ready to take over the Notre Dame Football program in the 2022 college football season.
