The Notre Dame Football program has two budding stars in Kyren Williams and Chris Tyree, a tandem that will wreak havoc on opponents in 2021.

Last season, Notre Dame Football saw running back Kyren Williams break out in a big way, rushing for over 1,000 yards in his first season as the program’s feature back. Williams showed an excellent blend of size and speed, running over, or around defenses, while also displaying excellent hands in the passing game.

The huge year led to him being the ACC’s Freshman of the Year, as well as other numerous accolades. Lost in Williams’ monster season was the play of freshman Chris Tyree, who showed on plenty of occasions that he also has the skill set to be a feature back at the collegiate level.

In 2021, this duo returns to South Bend and will be counted on in a big way, especially with so many changes on the offensive side of the ball. After watching them last season, they should certainly be up for the challenge.

Notre Dame Football has a special RB duo in 2021

On offense, the Irish are replacing Ian Book at quarterback, most of their production at wide receiver, as well as eighty percent of their starting offensive line. While that seems like the recipe for a down season in South Bend, there is still a lot of talent returning, and there is no reason why they should take a major step backward.

With Jack Coan likely replacing Book at quarterback, a lot of the workload is going to go to Notre Dame’s elite running back tandem, as well as star tight end, Michael Mayer. Tyree and Williams can beat you in so many ways, and as we saw in 2020, Tyree has that uncanny ability to take any play to the house at any time.

Following Williams and Tyree is solid depth at running back as well, as true freshman Logan Diggs and Audric Estime and veteran C’Bo Flemister should see time in 2021. Overall, this is a special group, and the Irish have already locked in an elite running back for 2022 in Jadarian Price, so this position is going to be very good, for a very long time.
