Ranking the Notre Dame Football QBs most likely to transfer
No. 1: Brendon Clark
While Pyne and Powlus could certainly transfer if they start to get buried on the depth chart, one player who is already buried could find new life elsewhere as soon as next season. At one point, Brendon Clark was a top-20 pro-style quarterback in the country, after leading his team to an undefeated season in his senior campaign.
Since arriving in South Bend, however, Clark has had moments, including becoming the backup to Ian Book this past season, where COVID and an ACL flare-up ended his season. He has the physical gifts you look for in a legitimate college quarterback, including outstanding arm strength, and if healthy, he could certainly start somewhere else.
The problem is, he is not even in the conversation to start this upcoming season, as Pyne has become the biggest challenge to Coan in that department. For Clark, it will be another year holding the clipboard, but you have to believe that he may want to test the waters next offseason, especially with Angeli joining the fold.
Clark does have a 22-yard touchdown pass to his credit, throwing in 2019 to Braden Lenzy against New Mexico, and has learned behind a solid leader in Book the last two years. It would actually be good to see him get a shot to start somewhere else.
