Notre Dame Football 2021 Breakout Candidate: Jordan Johnson
By Brad Weiss
The Notre Dame Football suddenly has some solid depth at wide receiver, but Jordan Johnson should be expected to break out in 2021.
Heading into the 2020 college football season, there was a lot of hype on some incoming Notre Dame Football freshmen, including wide receiver Jordan Johnson. Rated a top-30 player in the country, and top-5 at his position group, Johnson was joining a wide receiver room that needed someone to step up in, but as a freshman, this was hard to do.
Instead, Johnson was hardly used at all in his first season and heading into what will be his freshman year in terms of eligibility, more is to be expected. Johnson has everything you look for in a standout wide receiver at the college level, he is long, he is tall, and has tremendous hands, so the expectation is he will breakout this Fall.
While expectations are always tough, he has a year of college ball under his belt and is a part of a wide receiver room that is going to have to replace most of the production from last season. Javon McKinley and Ben Skowronek are both headed to the NFL, which means it is time for someone to take the helm on the outside.
Notre Dame Football has depth at wide receiver
Luckily for this Notre Dame Football program, there is a lot of depth at wide receiver this season, and while most of the depth is inexperienced, you can see flashes of brilliance during the spring practices. For Johnson, he will be expected to play a big role in this offense this Fall, and by all accounts, he should definitely be a breakout candidate for the Irish heading into 2021.
Heading into the Blue-Gold game next weekend, we still do not know who is going to be the starting quarterback for this Notre Dame Football team next season. One thing we do know, they are going to have some weapons on the outside, and Johnson has all the talent to stand alone atop the depth chart before all is said and done.
