Ian Book, the guy with the most wins in Notre Dame Football history at quarterback, went on Day 3 to the New Orleans Saints, and it is a perfect spot.

The Notre Dame Football team saw their star quarterback selected in the 2021 NFL Draft on Saturday, and it was way earlier than many experts predicted. Expected to be a possible Round 6 or 7 pick, or possibly even go undrafted, Ian Book was the first signal-caller selected on Day 3, heading to a place where he could really thrive.

Notre Dame Football star goes to the Saints

With the No. 133 pick in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints selected Book, and he is someone who could make major waves in that quarterback room. The Saints are going into the new era of the franchise, as Drew Brees retired this offseason, and they now are planning on going with Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston.

Both players are unproven at the NFL level in a full-time starter role, so it will be interesting to see who emerges with the starting job. While Book will go into camp as the team’s No. 3, he could make a move up their depth chart, especially with Hill being more of a gadget player, and Winston prone to interceptions.

Remember, Brees is even smaller than Book is, so it is not like Sean Payton is going to be afraid to go with him despite him not being the perfect height to play quarterback at the NFL level. In fact, New Orleans is a perfect place for Book, as Payton is an innovative offensive head coach, and Book has the kind of playmaking style that can excel in his system.

In a funny twist to the storyline, Brees will actually be on the call for the Irish’s games this Fall, as he got a job immediately in television after leaving the playing field. Maybe Book takes his spot eventually in New Orleans, but one thing is for sure, he was drafted high enough to be a big part of their plans moving forward.
