Notre Dame Football has a special head coach in Brian Kelly, who was recently named a top-5 coach in the entire country by CBS Sports.

The Notre Dame Football team will head into the 2021 college football season fresh off another appearance in the College Football Playoff. For Brian Kelly and his team, that is their second appearance in the last three years, as they continue to show that they are one of the best teams in college football.

In fact, the Irish have won at least ten games in each of the last four seasons, showing the kind of dominance that has brought the program back to the top of the college football landscape. While there is still a gap in talent between the Irish and the likes of Alabama or Ohio State, that does not mean that Kelly is not putting a winning product on the field every season.

Recently, CBS Sports did a fantastic job of listing the top head coaches in college football, and Kelly was right at the top of the list.

Notre Dame Football HC Brian Kelly No. 5 in the country

At the top of the rankings was Nick Saban, which is no big shock considering it seems like he wins a national championship every season. Behind him was Dabo Swinney, another guy who has built a tremendous program over at Clemson, a team that the Irish beat during the 2020 regular season.

The third-ranked coach was Lincoln Riley, who many consider being a legitimate NFL head coaching candidate before all is said and done. Rounding out the top four is Ryan Day, who has done nothing but win since taking over for Urban Meyer at Ohio State.

Then there is Kelly, who is bound to be the winningest head coach in Notre Dame history and has steadily started to bridge the gap in talent between the Irish and the elite in college football. He has yet to win a national title, but he is definitely one of the best in the game, and his Irish teams come to play every weekend.

If Kelly can finally slay the dragon, and lead this Irish team to a national title, I believe he could be ranked even higher when all is said and done. For now, being ranked No. 5 is a real honor, and shows just how good the man leading the way is in South Bend.
