The Notre Dame football program continues to stack talent for their 2022 recruiting class, this time adding New Jersey CB Jayden Bellamy.

On Friday afternoon, Notre Dame football added to its recruiting class, this time with 2022 defensive back out of New Jersey Jayden Bellamy making his decision in favor of the Irish. He was just on campus the weekend on June 18th for his official visit, and clearly, that pulled Notre Dame football ahead in terms of his recruiting.

The Irish staff got the last crack at Bellamy, which could have been the best way to land him for the 2022 class. The relationship with the commits, especially with Notre Dame QB commit Steve Angeli, who is actually his high school quarterback at Bergen Catholic (NJ), added to that factor also.

Bellamy’s top three consisted of Notre Dame, Penn State, and Rutgers, where his dad played football, but ultimately, he pulled the trigger in favor of the Irish. The staff gave him the green light, and that all but wrapped it up for the young defensive back.

At the moment Bellamy holds 23 offers from the likes of Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and many more.

So what will Jayden Bellamy bring to the Notre Dame football program?

The 6’0 175 pound defensive back is going to bring quickness and speed to the cornerback room. He’s someone that could easily play corner or safety in South Bend, making him a versatile get for defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman.

He sees the field extremely well, which will benefit him on the backend much more. His lateral quickness pops out on film, and he has great speed as I mentioned before. I know a lot of people, myself includes sometimes, would like to see surefire players at positions like corner or safety but in this day and age you have to embrace the versatility of these young players and the staff knows that.

Bellamy has that al,l and it’ll be very fun to see the staff play around with his abilities and see where that’ll fit the defense the best. You want speed, quickness, and that edge to a player, and Jayden Bellamy definitely has that.

With Bellamy making it official, the class now holds 17 commits, nine on defense and eight on the offensive side. Bellamy will be joining Jaden Mickey in the defensive back room, with several spots left up for grabs.

With how recruiting is shaping out for Notre Dame football and the staff, I wouldn’t be surprised if there were five defensive backs in this class when it’s all said and done. Until then, we have to wait and see how it all plays out, but Jaden Mickey and Jayden Bellamy are a solid start to that group.
