The Notre Dame football team sent 14 players to the NFL this offseason, and one UDFA could make the 53-man roster in Detroit.

The Notre Dame football team from last season is starting to make some noise in their first NFL camps, and it is not only coming from those who were drafted. Some of the undrafted free agents are putting in the work to climb up depth charts the hard way, and former Irish tight end Brock Wright, appears to be in the right situation with the Detroit Lions.

In his first camp with the team, Wright is starting to impress according to Jeff Risdon of LionsWire, and is one of the four men vying for the No. 3 tight end role behind T.J. Hockenson and Darren Fells. The Irish actually sent two tight ends to the NFL this offseason, with Tommy Tremble being drafted by the Carolina Panthers, and both now have the possibility of being on an NFL roster in Week 1.

Notre Dame football well-represented in the Motor City

Wright is not the only member of the 2020 Notre Dame football team on the preseason roster, as both Javon McKinley and Tommy Kraemer were also signed as undrafted free agents. Kraemer is in a battle right now to earn one of the reserve offensive lineman spots, but after a strong start, McKinley is starting to fade a bit in terms of the depth chart at wide receiver.

There is a lot of preseason left, as every team outside of Pittsburgh and Dallas have yet to play Game No. 1, so all three of these former Irish players have a chance to make the roster still. Wright is starting to climb right now, and if he does end up earning the No. 3 tight end job, he will do so by beating out another former Notre Dame player in Alize Mack.

Remember, the Lions head coach is Dan Campbell, a former star tight end himself, so Wright and the rest of the group are in good hands.

Wright seems to be a solid fit for what the Lions want to do with the tight end position, and while he certainly is not going to unseat Hockenson, he can play a role in Detroit. He is a kid who has a tremendous work ethic, and outstanding physical gifts, so it would not be surprising if he survives the cuts this summer.
