Notre Dame football: Ben Skowronek rookie year on hold after fracture
By Brad Weiss
Former Notre Dame football wide receiver Ben Skowronek was injured during his first preseason game, and will be out indefinitely for the Los Angeles Rams.
This past weekend, we got to see many of the former Notre Dame football stars from the 2020 team kick off their NFL careers. While we did see a mixed bag, from Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah dominating in his Cleveland Browns debut, to an up-and-down opener from quarterback Ian Book, for the most part, it was a successful weekend.
Of course, not all of the members of the 2020 team got off to a solid start, as Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Ben Skowronek fractured his forearm in the team’s matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. Skowronek, who is trying to move up the depth chart with the Rams, has undergone surgery, and will now look to battling back, though there is no timetable for his return right now.
Last season, Skowronek stepped up big time for the Irish as a graduate transfer, as he and Javon McKinley led the team from the wide receiver position.
Former Notre Dame football stars carving out roles this summer
It was an exciting weekend on many levels for the Irish, as we saw Book play the entire second half for the New Orleans Saints, and JOK look like an absolute steal for the Cleveland Browns. Liam Eichenberg has already carved out a role as a starter for the Miami Dolphins, though moving inside to play guard, and Tommy Tremble scored the only touchdown for the Carolina Panthers in their loss against Indianapolis.
There are plenty of exciting matchups to watch this upcoming weekend, as these players, and the rest of the Notre Dame football rookie class try to hang on and make a 53-man roster coming out of the preseason. For Skowronek, his rookie season has been put on hold, but for the 13 others in training camps this summer, the party is just getting started.
