The Notre Dame football team picked up an upset of a commitment on Thursday, and we discuss what Aamil Wagner brings to the Irish.

We got an upset! Notre Dame football has landed a 2022 offensive lineman out of Dayton, Ohio in Aamil Wagner. The All-American has been on campus multiple times over the past couple of months and clearly him getting to experience gameday and also a feel for the university was huge for him.

A lot of people had Wagner picking Kentucky because he has family on the current staff but the relationships he built with the Irish staff were just as strong to pass on going to the Wildcats. Obviously, the prestige of Notre Dame as an offensive lineman was massive as well. Notre Dame had it all for Wagner and that’s why he’s now Irish.

At the moment, Wagner has 30 offers from the likes of Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State, and many more.

What does Aamil Wagner bring to the Notre Dame football team?

The 6’6 265-pound offensive lineman will definitely be bringing athleticism up front and seems to fit best at tackle along the offensive line. Right now he’s thin and lean but will definitely have no problem adding mass to his frame once he gets with strength coach Matt Balis.

He has really solid feet and can move with the best of them. Wagner holds his frame well and has nice bend to his knees that will definitely help him when he adds weight. There’s a lot more upside than most guys with him because of his gifted frame and athleticism, but as I mentioned, adding strength will be key for Wagner early in his Notre Dame career.

He plays with a physicality as well that you love to see when he finishes off blocks and gets to the second level of the defense. He’s someone that could be another first-rounder down the road in South Bend.

With Wagner making his commitment official, the Irish class now has 22 pledges, being split down the middle, with 11 on defense and 11 on the offensive side. Wagner will be joining Ty Chan, Joey Tanona and Ashton Craig in the offensive line room.

These four are an excellent haul and offensive line coach Jeff Quinn should be ecstatic. He will try and finish that group with one more priority target still on the board. What a huge surprise and upset get for the Irish staff, especially Jeff Quinn.
